Sand Wood Sisal Nest: For your Trumpeter Swan nest,
materials: *Aragonite Sand (find at Petsmart locations in the reptile section)
*wood chips ( a bag of) (your local hardware store usually, Canadian Tire)
*Sisal rope 1/4 inch or thicker
Instructions: spread out the Aragonite sand (calcium carbonate sand), in an elliptical shape at the location where you want the nest to be...43 inches minimum diameter for a Trumpeter Swan...Sprinkle all your wood chips on top of the sand in the same shape but a slightly smaller ellipse (a circle shape is fine too)...Weave your sisal rope into a giant ellipse that fits on top of the wood chips...Try to fill in the gaps in your weave so there aren't any big holes...http://sarigrove.weebly.com/1/post/2011/09/instructional-video-on-how-to-make-the-trumpeter-swan-nest.html  (The link takes you to a video on this site of how to weave the Trumpeter Swan Nest...)

Lay your Sisal rope nest on top of the wood chips...Voila, you have a nice warm safe place for a Trumpeter Swan to sit upon in the cold cold months of winter, which are November to April in Toronto...

http://www.greenillusions.org/ Green Illusions is a book that is coming out May 12, 2012, but you really should ask them to remind you for then, or pre-order, because this book may change the future of green...Instead of bulking up on eco-friendly things, the author looks to the act of consumption as a culprit, & identifies weaknesses in many new eco-technologies...Less is more, walk to work, & so on...Take a look...I don't think the book is anti-eco, just anti-false-hope-eco perhaps...
